Gabrielle Chanel was born in 1883 (but she told everyone that in 1993). At six years old, she lost her mother, and a little later her father abandoned her and her four other brothers. Therefore, she had to live in a shelter for several years. In her youth, Chanel worked as a clothing seller and sang in a cabaret. It was the songs she sang that caused her to be nicknamed Coco. Thanks to her lover, she managed to open her women’s hat store in Paris in 1910. By 1919, her influence in the fashion world was already very great. The founder of the Gucci brand was Guccio Gucci (1881-1953), who in 1921 opened a workshop in Florence for the production of leather suitcases with money earned in London. He worked there as a simple elevator for 10 years at the Savoy Hotel.
