Coco Chanel Fashion
“She made history in her own way, dressing the street, stars, queens,” wrote Edward Charles-Roux about Gabrielle Chanel. And the point is not that the great Coco became a classic during his lifetime. The point is the special nature of its modeling, where all the inspirations of creative nature had their origins in “vital unrest and the twinkles of being.”
Gabrielle Chanel was born in 1883 (but she told everyone that in 1993). At six years old, she lost her mother, and a little later her father abandoned her and her four other brothers. Therefore, she had to live in a shelter for several years. In her youth, Chanel worked as a clothing seller and sang in a cabaret. It was the songs she sang that caused her to be nicknamed Coco. Thanks to her lover, she managed to open her women’s hat store in Paris in 1910. By 1919, her influence in the fashion world was already very great. It was copied, there was no end to orders, and its customers were people from all over the world.
Where did this woman take that much strength, who, only at 28, took her Coco Chanel the first step on the long road to recognition, whose name appeared on the press only in 1916, when she turned 33 years old? The answer that Gabrielle Chanel herself gives to all these questions is striking in the clarity and insight of self-esteem: “I ask myself how it happened that I came to this particular profession? Why do I look in her as a transformer, a revolutionary? It’s not at all because I’m doing what I like, but first of all because I’m trying to drive out what I hate from fashion … I’m just an instrument in the hands of Fate, carrying out the necessary clearing operation … ”
In 1921, Coco Chanel creates the famous fragrance “Chanel No. 5”, which revolutionized the world of women’s perfumes, which before that had never had complex smells, but were created on the basis of the smell of a single flower. Her perfume consisted of several scents at once.

In 1926, Chanel creates the famous black dress. Initially, it was straight, restrained cut, with a low waist, length, covering the knees, a long sleeve and a strict cut-boat. A huge success awaited her tweed suit. Coco gave the women trousers, short haircuts, blouses with a tie. However, in 1939 she had to close her fashion house because of the outbreak of war. After the war, she lived in Switzerland. And in 1954 she returned to the world of fashion with improved classic models of clothing.

It is Chanel who owns the creation of a truly elegant democratic costume, simple in form and acceptable to everyone, regardless of age. Elegant suit? But elegance is a purely personal quality. It may not be subject to sale. This means that the costumes in the Chanel style act as allies, slightly adjust the style of behavior, prompting restraint and delicacy not only to the owner of the costume, but also to the people around him. Here it is, the secret of “Chanel”, a wonderful “formula” of respectability of the 20th century, the moral basis of which was to become an exceptional sense of self-esteem.

It’s not in vain that the Chanel style gained popularity in a few years and many famous fans of all ages. Among them are Jacqueline Kennedy, Margaret Thatcher and our Valentina Tereshkova.
Among Chanel’s many acquaintances, Sergey Diaghilev always remained one of the main figures. Friendship with “Serge the Magnificent” lasted until the very last days of this brilliant Russian man. Fate decreed that it was Gabrielle who incurred the costs of organizing Diaghilev’s funeral. Few people know that a wonderful meeting and the ensuing romance with Grand Duke Dmitry Pavlovich Romanov gave impetus to the creation of the famous Chanel No. 5 perfumes.
Chanel always attributed her work to the category of crafts. The former
a pupil of the nuns sisters firmly believed that the hand of a person who comes into contact with material, whether clay or cloth, is always led by divine providence.
Having precisely defined her place in the history of fashion of the 20th century, Chanel considered the path of direct borrowing from the street, which many of her colleagues stepped on, to be shameful. It is unacceptable for a vulgar street to lead a couturier’s hand! Letting fashion go down the street is the noble mission of any fashion. So thought the great Chanel.
