Donna Faske was born in 1948 on the outskirts of Manhattan. She started designing the costume not by accident: her father was a tailor, her mother was a fashion model, so drawing clothes was a natural and favorite pastime since childhood. After leaving school, Donna entered the Parson’s School of Design in New York, but failed to finish her studies. She was a sophomore when, in 1968, Anne Klein (Anne Klein) invited her to work at her Fashion House.
The sudden death of the head of the House violated all of Donna’s plans, because it was she who bequeathed to Anna Klein the completion of work on her latest collection before her death. Donna Karan worked for ten years in the orphaned Fashion House, becoming its chief designer.
The beginning of a career was fraught with life difficulties: Donna was already married, had a daughter, but was forced to go to work a few days after the birth.

Years of hard work as the chief designer of Fashion House Anne Klein affected her personal life: she was less interested in her husband’s affairs, and in 1983 the marriage with Mark Karan ended in divorce.
The new marriage was more successful: Stephen Weiss became not only a beloved husband, but also a like-minded person – he helped to start his own business. In 1984, Donna Karan was founded with the support of the Japanese group Takihyo.
The first collection of Donna Karan in the fall of 1985 was a tremendous success and became a bestseller in the United States. It presented seven elements that the designer considers necessary to create a wardrobe of a modern woman. This is like seven notes in music: combining in various combinations, you can get an infinite number of wonderful melodies, and Donna Karan – costumes. These are the seven “bricks” from which any miracle can be created, as the designer herself does: body / leggings, dresses, skirts, blouses, cardigans, trousers and accessories. Body – the invention of Donna Karan: convenient, reliable, amazingly beautiful!
