Gabrielle Chanel was born in 1883 (but she told everyone that in 1993). At six years old, she lost her mother, and a little later her father abandoned her and her four other brothers. Therefore, she had to live in a shelter for several years. In her youth, Chanel worked as a clothing seller and sang in a cabaret. It was the songs she sang that caused her to be nicknamed Coco. Thanks to her lover, she managed to open her women’s hat store in Paris in 1910. By 1919, her influence in the fashion world was already very great. When the mother died, none of the relatives, even the father, wanted to educate Gabrielle and her two sisters, so the girls were sent to a shelter at the monastery. At the age of 18, Gabriel had a choice: to remain in the monastery, or, having left it, to continue his education in some other institution. She left the monastery to study in a boarding house in the town of Moulins. Chanel firmly decided not to return to the miserable past, so she struggled with a different, luxurious life.
