Gabrielle Chanel was born in 1883 (but she told everyone that in 1993). At six years old, she lost her mother, and a little later her father abandoned her and her four other brothers. Therefore, she had to live in a shelter for several years. In her youth, Chanel worked as a clothing seller and sang in a cabaret. It was the songs she sang that caused her to be nicknamed Coco. Kenzo Takada’s interest in costume arose at school, but at the insistence of his father he had to go to Kobe Gaibo University, the faculty of English literature.
